What is Tick Fever?
Tick fever is a group of infections transmitted by tick bites. In Pune and PCMC we primarily see Ehrlichiosis and Babesiosis — both transmitted by the Brown Dog Tick, extremely common in green localities.
📍 High-risk areas in Pune: Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Aundh, Baner, Pashan. If your dog goes outdoors, tick fever testing is essential twice a year.
Symptoms to Watch For
- Sudden lethargy — energetic yesterday, barely moving today
- Complete loss of appetite
- High fever — above 103°F (39.4°C)
- Pale or yellow gums — sign of anaemia
- Blood in urine — dark brown or red (classic Babesiosis sign)
- Bleeding from nose or gums — advanced Ehrlichiosis
Diagnosis and Treatment
We run CBC and tick fever panel in our in-house lab — results in 1–2 hours. Ehrlichiosis: Doxycycline for 4 weeks. Babesiosis: Imidocarb injections. Most dogs recover fully when caught early.
⚠️ Do not wait. Tick fever progresses from mild to critical in 48–72 hours. Call +91 77569 65169 immediately if your dog is lethargic and not eating.
Prevention
- Monthly tick prevention — Bravecto, NexGard or Simparica
- Check your dog for ticks after every outdoor walk
